About
I live in the Bay Area with my wife, chasing the future we can all feel we're on the precipice of: AGI, agents, and entirely new ways of working and living. It's the most exciting moment I've experienced in technology, and I can't wait for the dawn of a new civilizational era.
I recently took leave from Reddit to exhale after ten years "on the ball." I'm investing, advising, traveling, writing, training, riding bikes, jumping in the Mediterranean, getting to shows, and building technical projects while I hunt for the next big thing.
The through-line of my career has been chasing the moment just before something becomes obvious. Generative AI music in 2018 at Humtap. User identity on a historically anonymous platform with Reddit Avatars in 2020. LLM-powered growth systems inside a public company in 2023. Each of them looked premature at the time. That was the point.
I grew up in Minnesota on Lake Minnetonka, studied Finance and CS at the University of Minnesota, started in consulting, spent a few years founding companies, and then landed at Reddit in 2019 during the Series D. The career timeline below has the rest of it.
What I care about outside of work shows up in my work more than I used to admit: mecha anime and otaku culture, techno and house, indie bands, Napa weekends, competitive gaming, and long rides in the hills. I think good product people need taste, and taste is just the accumulated receipts of understanding the things you love.
Right now I'm looking for the next version of the problem: the next thing that looks obvious in retrospect but isn't obvious yet. Preferably at a company doing serious work on AI.
